Zumbro House, Inc. was founded in 2001, by Adlerian behaviorist Christopher Onken, M.A. as an alternative residential opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness and behavior needs. Central to the Adlerian approach is to see the person as a whole, and not as a mere net result of component forces. We have adopted this holistic approach for each individual we serve. Our mission has always been to help individuals who would otherwise have been at risk of institutional placement to live successfully in the community. This is accomplished through highly supported community based residential programs with programming specifically geared at promoting pro-social behaviors. The idea is that a combination of highly trained, exceptional staff, in concert with a holistic intervention schedule whose centerpiece is comprehensive positive behavior support programming, maximizes the opportunity for individuals to live in non-institutional and ultimately more normalized settings. Our flagship corporate foster home was developed in Oronoco (Olmsted County), Minnesota, in May of 2001 on a bluff overlooking the Zumbro River.
